DUI-Multi Offender Program

In July 1997, Georgia passed into law the Teen-age and Adult Driver Responsibility Act. This law has undergone several revisions since then and will probably be fine-tuned in the future as well. Basically, and keep in mind that individual cases vary according to the date and year of the court date "date of disposition" in legal-ease, this law stipulates that after a 2nd DUI within a 5-year period of time an individual, in addition to local probation and court requirements, in order to be re-instated with full driving privileges, must do the following:

  1. Complete a state-approved Risk Reduction Program "DUI School" (e.g. Ace DUI)
  2. Complete a Clinical Evaluation by a clinical evaluator on the official Department of Human Resources Registry of Clinical Evaluators, the DUI school must provide you with this list.
  3. Complete whatever requirements this Evaluator stipulates - for most people, this seems to be completion of Level 1 Treatment , meaning attending a 3-hour session of treatment at least once weekly this could be up to 3 times weekly, for a minimum of 17 weeks, i.e. 120 days up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
  4. Prices for this program vary widely and are not regulated, so it would be good to call around and inquire about the following issues before officially telling your clinical evaluator which Treatment Provider you wish your transfer papers sent to the evaluator must provide you with a list of state-approved treatment providers in your area - only these providers may fulfill this requirement.

Questions to ask Treatment Providers:

  1. Location of sessions
  2. Consequences of missing a session
  3. Price of the program and payment schedules including possibilities of "running a tab"
  4. Requirements, if any, of required attendance at Alcoholics meetings.
  5. Any other program requirements

STR Holds Several Sessions Weekly to choose from, which allows for make-up sessions as well, as Georgia state law is strict on the "minimum of once-weekly" requirement.
